Mooloolaba SS Sports Information 2019
Welcome back to another exciting year of sporting opportunities at Mooloolaba State School. Term one is going to be extremely busy with swimming carnivals for years 4-6, cross country trials for years 4-6, and our athletics carnivals for the whole school all before Easter. This change to our normal scheduling in athletics happens every 7 years when the National athletics is held in Darwin. Because of the heat in Darwin the Nationals are held earlier in the year, which forces a change all the way down the line and affects our school program.
Our Mooloolaba SS swimming carnival is on next Monday February 4. Permission notes will be out early in week 1 and must be returned with payment by Friday. The Coastal District swimming carnival is on Monday February 11 so students who come in the top three and meet the qualifying times, at our carnival will qualify for the District event.
Our Mooloolaba SS cross-country trial is scheduled for Friday March 15. This event will be held on a course around our school and will take place in the afternoon session. Again, the top six students will qualify to represent Mooloolaba SS at the District Cross Country in term 2.
Our athletics carnivals are scheduled for week 10 of term 1 with the year 4-6 800m events on Monday April 1 in the afternoon session. The year 4-6 athletics day will follow on Tuesday April 2 and the Prep-3 athletics day will be Thursday April 4.
There will also be a number of competitions we will enter throughout the year where students will be invited to try out for teams to represent Mooloolaba SS in local and state-wide competitions. Last year these events included AFL Qld Schools Cup, rugby league Development Cup and Annette Brander Shield, Oz tag Qld All schools, cricket T20 Blast, surfing OPC Event, and surf lifesaving District Surfs kills Carnival. We are hoping to include some extra sports in 2019.
There will also be opportunities for students who excel at certain sports to attend Coastal District trials after school in order to make representative teams. These District teams attend Regional trials where a Sunshine Coast team is selected to attend State Championships. These are extremely valuable experiences for our gifted and talented sportspeople. Last year Mooloolaba SS had 36 students selected in Coastal District teams and eight went on to make Sunshine Coast Regional teams. We also had Jade Schriever go all the way to the Queensland Athletics team at the Nationals.
I am looking forward to a busy and successful 2019 on the sporting fields with Mooloolaba SS. If you have any questions regarding school sporting opportunities, please contact me via email amess4@eq.edu.au or at the school.
